SSAA Magazine

Jim Lyall
I recently wrote to the editor of the SSAA magazine complaining amongst other things, about the lack of coverage of our discipline, and the fact that Discipline Coordinator is not mentioned.
I had a response from Allan Blane, Managing Editor, SSAA National. He agreed that the points I had raised were valid and he confirmed they would put the wheels in motion to give the discipline some decent coverage in the magazine in the coming months.
He also offered, "any suggestions welcome".
Those would like to have their stories posted or have suggestions considered, please contact Allan on 08 82727100 or edit@ssaa.org.au
I feel participation in submitting details of the Registered Fly Shoot Matches can only assist our discipline in giving it the coverage it deserves.
Thank you.

Re: SSAA Magazine

Hi Jim,
I am working with SSAA on a couple of things at the moment, the Association is currently updating its Discipline posters and Discipline Guide, I have provided updated wording for that. I also hope to have a good article with a general overview of Fly Shooting in the magazine during the second quarter of 2019 and I am currently liaising with SSAA to that end.

The lack of an article in the magazine this year regarding the Nationals is my fault, I drafted something that was rubbish ( a creative writer I am not) and I failed to enlist the right help to close out the job. In 2019 I plan to lean on someone that has some writing skills to write an article about the Nationals at Batemans Bay for inclusion in the magazine.

I get enquiries through the flyshoot@ssaa.org.au email address that National provided for correspondence and contact but these articles might fill the void that is currently there with regard to awareness of the discipline so that people go looking for more information on the website.

With the help of a few others we will get there, but I think we are heading in the right direction, only one of the awards that were introduced in the new rulebook remains outstanding and that is on order, so we are making progress, if a little slowly.

Dave.

Dave,
I didn't intend to upset anything that you and SSAA are currently working on.
My intent was to make SSAA a bit more proactive and clubs to submit stories after their Fly Shoots.
The workload on you is already hugh and I feel each club should be responsible for input to SSAA.
The club reports which are currently in the 500 Metre Fly group and Michael Bell's profiles on Fly Shooters could be forwarded to SSAA.
By only having these on the 500 Metre Fly group is good for existing fly shooters, but doesn't expose it to the other SSAA members.
Hope I haven't upset the applecart, but my intentions were to give us greater exposure across the whole of SSAA.
Jim
