New to this forum, Hi all!

Sebastian Lambang
Gentlemen,

Just find this forum when searching for the "500m Flyshoot Australia" in the net, a moment ago.
Great forum! Very informative, too.

Le me introduce myself...my name is Sebastian (seb) Lambang, I live in Indonesia. Some of you here might already knew me... I know some of you guys here also. It is always nice to meet Ol & New Friends!!!
I have visited Australia & shot the "Fly" for 3 times, all in Madden Range, by the way. I will be very happy if I have chance to visit & shoot in other ranges in the future. I'm still a newbie, and always eager to learn!
Got my 2nd BRT course last November, and always feel want more! Stuart & Annie have been Great mentors for me...they made my learning curve ..."up?". (Sorry for my poor English, English isn't my everyday language).

Ok, that's it all. I'm just an average "Joe" and nothing special.

I hope I can learn from you all here, especially with the Fly shooting.

Best Wishes & Merry X'mas,
seb.

Hi Seb,

Welcome to the forum.

While I don't know you personally, I am guessing that you are the "Seb" that makes the very nice Seb Coaxial rest that most of us have seen in use at shoots...

Great to have you on here, and maybe meet you at a fly shoot sometime.

Cheers

Anthony

Re: Seb Rests

I have one of those Seb Neo Rests on order, but because they are so popular its now about a 6 months wait to get one here in Aust. They look fantastic and believe they are considered one of the best rests around.

Welcome to the forum and hope to meet you at one of the shoots.

Welcome mate i hope you enjoy the website and the forum, everyone on here helps out with as much information as they have so hopefully you will learn even more.

Don't worry about your english it is fine and no one on here will worry if there are mispelt words etc as we all do it.

I am very happy that you have joined the forum from Indonsia this means that the fly shooting is spreading to other locations.

We all try to grow the sport as much as we can and having our own forum is certainly doing this if you have any ideas you would like to put up then please let us know on here.....

cheers and good shooting
Les

Re: New to this forum, Hi all!

Sebastian Lambang
Thanks you guys for the welcome!

I do love the Fly shoot.
Just wondering one thing, based on my past experience.... obviously there were so few wind flags provided in the range/firing line where I've shot before (i.e. at Madden Brisbane)...my question is, is it possible or allowed to put more windflags in the firing line? --- because I didn't see anyone that use their own windflags? (such as in point blank BR, for instance). On the other side, I believe many of you have your own windflags and happy to use it.
Of course, fairness to all shooters is mandatory - however with more windlfags in the firing line would/should help all competitors to read the wind changes more better.... (agree?)

Honestly, I can't read the wind very well ONLY by watching the "windflags" provided. Thus it's more guestimate for me rather than "exact" hold off such as in short range BR. (Yes I usually watch the existing mirage, but that's not a really good source to read the condition...at least for me).

.....OR is it the intend of the discipline (without many flags in the firing line)?

Your inputs will be much appreciated!

Best Wishes,
seb.

   Hello Sebastion
Great to catch up with you again
I agree with you  there were not enough wind flags at the brisbane shoot
but there is nothing stoping any competitor from puting out his own flags
when you get to shoot at other ranges in Australia you will see many different types of
               wind flags and wind meters
if you ever get the chance to shoot at Batemans Bay you will find a forrest of flags
and you will be very welcome to attend any fly shoot anywhere in Australia
you could even get some practise at home by starting up a fly shoot there
have a safe and happy Christmas and new year

Re: New to this forum, Hi all!

Sebastian Lambang
Hi John, nice to talk with you again & thanks for the inputs!
Then I might probably make a set of flags when I have time.

Again Congratulations for your win at the Madden last Nov!

Cheers,
seb.

PS: I had some very good lessons in/from that shoot!

- Always check ALL things and be prepared for any problems! - Even "small thing" can ruin a nice day (or supposed to be a nice day).
My biggest mistake was, the stock was too late to finish / to arrive. (rush hour at that time, thus not enough time for almost everything.
There were some other mistakes.... for instance too tight dovetail on my homemade rings (to fit the Davidson base on my Stolle), my bolt handle was brazed too vertically (came from the factory I believe) so it interfere with the eye piece of the March scope Stuart loaned me for the Fly,  my bolt extractor didn't work very well for the .284win (could not extract the brass reliably/every time thus I had to use a cleaning rod from the muzzle to remove the brass out, especially during 4th relay),.... Etc.
*I have fixed some of the problems before, during & after the match anyway. I have bent the bolt handle several minutes before the fly began (must back & forth to the gunshop for the vise & hammer), I have removed the extractor & removed the burrs/rough surfaces inside.
*I'll bring more tools etc in the future...

- To get MORE practice! - The last time I shot benchrest was the Supershoot 2008 in Ohio. Last match at Madden = my first time to use my own rest. To be frankly, I live with it almost everyday but never use it before. I can't shoot/practice much over here in Indonesia because I don't have a true BR rifle and the fact that handloading is not allowed. Sad but true.
*Planning to modify one of my 308s and get more practice over here, even with just factory ammo.

- Always check how many rounds have had already placed on the target. I shot only 4 rounds on my 4th relay and spent the last round on my cartridge tray on the steel plate, "thought" that I have already shot 5 on the paper. ---On the contrary, I shot 6 rounds for twice times in my 100/200 match the day before the fly, because not sure if I have shot 5 rounds on the paper.
*Will more carefully count my cartridges in the future,...or I may probably make a special cartridge tray for that reason.

- To be more patient,..... i.e. to pick/wait for the condition. I have 7 minutes, not 4 or 5.
Yes, I always avoid doubling. However not rare I feel that it's too early to shoot, or too late to start - for a given condition.

That's why shooting is (always) interesting! - If it is so easy I'll be boring just in an hour or less.

Hi Seb,
With regards to your photo can you please change it to a photo of you the reason is when you are here shooting people will know who you are it is one of the rules of the forum so if you could change it that would be great.

As for the counting of shots on your targets, make yourself a loading block or simply put 5 shots above 3 and then you know that the five above are for the target and the three on the bottom are for the splash plate, this way you know how many you have put on each.

As for flags mate go your hardest  you can put as many or as little as you want out, some people go to shoots to just use what is there. I to used to do this but know i put flags out all over the place for everyone to see.... But if you don't put any out then you just have to cope with what is there and sometimes there are not to many out.

cheers and good shooting Les

Re: New to this forum, Hi all!

Sebastian Lambang
Les sir, thanks you for your generous offer to lend a rifle. It is much appreciated!
I read somewhere in this forum that you'd build a rifle for loan but can't locate it again. That's great really!
I'm sure will remember this and will take your offer when I can't bring my own rifle in Oz.

Can you tell me where a big match will be in Oz sometime in March? (Stuart told me last month, but unfortunately/my bad I forgot where?). He said it's a big shoot & many shooters.

Cheers,
seb.
